WELCOME to the official website of the Society for Buggy Preservation, BUGGYLAND.ORG. This site strives to raise awareness for the ongoing struggle faced by buggies around the world and in your community. Look through these pages for ways you can help support our important cause.
Just what you were looking for: Answers to all the questions that you were probably far, far too afraid to ask...
1. WHY? OH, PLEASE GOD, WHY?
As our motto says: ... because buggies have feelings too. And -- in all seriousness -- every buggy has a story and each of those stories has a twisted little echo of the world that we all inhabit. Strange and cryptic, but true. And taking pictures of shopping carts sure beats taking pictures of our feet. We wanted to do something strange to get your attention. Hopefully it's worked.
2. ARE THESE IMAGES ORIGINAL?
Parodies of popular art, yes. Original photographs taken by us, also yes. We don't build buggies. We don't sell buggies. We don't even know where buggies come from. Other than that buggy-documentary that was on PBS a few months ago, we know absolutely nothing serious about buggies. There are a number of buggy links available in the ABOUT BUGGIES section of this site, but we didn't write that information and we take no responsibility for their content.
3. WHERE DID YOU FIND ALL THE BUGGIES?
No buggies were harmed in the making of this website. Every buggy you see on this site was found-as-photographed and in the wild. We don't pose buggies. We don't steal buggies. We don't advocate posing or stealing buggies. Heck, we don't even want to touch the stupid things. But somehow buggies tend to find their way into the wild and so we take photos of them.
4. WHY NOT JUST GO TO A PARKING LOT?
All our buggies are lost. They've gone for a long stroll and haven't found their way back home. We don't take pictures of buggies that are in parking lots. It's too easy: Sort of like the old saying, shooting fish in a barrel.
5. DONATIONS? HUH?
If you buy something from this site, we're not going to keep a penny of profit. (The front page is a joke, by the way.) This site was developed to help friends raise money for legally registered Canadian charities. We'll let you know who's getting the money when you donate.
6. SO... I GUESS THAT MEANS YOU'RE NOT A REAL CHARITY, RIGHT?
Uh.... yeah. I mean, no. I mean... The Society for Buggy Preservation is not real. It's a spoof. On the other hand, BUGGYLAND.ORG itself IS real... but only is the quasi-physical sense that any invented collection of pointless information assembled under a cheaply purchsed domain name can ever claim that rank.
7. BUT I HAD THIS IDEA FIRST AND YOU STOLE IT!
WE know there are others. We've seen them. And (scouts honour!) we didn't notice any of them until this project was well under way. Besides, that's not a question. And if you are odd enough to have devoted a significant portion of your personal time and resources to creating a fake shopping cart-related charity with a website, we're pretty much assuming you have enough of a quirky sense of humour that perhaps we can work together for the welfare of buggies everywhere.
